![]() The Lewisboro Lions Club announced it has made a donation of new, life saving technology to the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps (LVAC) in memory of Donna Seedorf, a longtime Lion member and active LVAC volunteer, who passed away earlier this year. In accepting the gift from Lions President Kevin G. O'Reilly, Karen Barber, LVAC Captain, said this was "An extraordinary gift in memory of an extraordinary person." Lewisboro Town Judge Marc Seedorf, attending the ceremony at LVAC headquarters, said "Donna would be delighted and proud to know she will continue to serve with all of her friends and colleagues at the Ambulance Corps." The donation includes two state-of-the-art patient diagnostic instruments that can detect Carbon Monoxide in a person's blood system, similar to a device used by Emergency Medical Technicians that slips over the finger to read a patient's oxygen levels and heart rate. "These are true lifesaving devices that will now allow us to determine at the scene if a person has dangerous levels of carbon monoxide that needs to be purged from their body in a hyperbaric chamber," said Captain Barber. Before the development of the new units thousands of people across the country were misdiagnosed in Emergency Rooms as having flu like illnesses. "This tool will change everything," she said, and will be particularly critical in assessing " high risk groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, children and our firefighters." O'Reilly commented on Mrs. Seedorf's dedication to the Lions, "She represented the very best of both LVAC and the Lions in giving so much of her life to the community. We couldn't think of a more appropriate way to both honor and continue her legacy than to donate this life saving equipment in her name." |
